DBS PayLah! App Design
UI/UX Design Project for DBS Bank Singapore.
Intern Project, 2019.
The Brief.
The basic outline of this project was to research the usability issues that customers were facing with the bank's widely used mobile payment app, 'Paylah!', and design a solution to tackle these problems and improve the app's user interface and experience.
I conducted interviews with a number of 'Paylah!' users to gather their thoughts and complaints with the app. Some of the main issues found were a non user friendly home page, a lack of usage of the 'Scan-To-Pay' feature and unawareness of certain promotions and perks.
Design Synthesis:
The insights gathered from the customer interviews were categorised into three areas of improvement - user interface issues, lack of understanding as well as convenience.
From there, the problem statement that I chose to focus on was how could we improve the 'Scan-To-Pay' function through simplifying, personalising and making it easier to use.
The Final Design:
Design Process:
The final design was developed using Sketch, a UI design software. One of the key changes to the app’s design is the integration of the camera view into the home screen of the app. This makes the ‘Scan-to-Pay’ feature much easier to access - a simple swipe downwards would allow you to scan QR codes and make payments. Other improvements include the icon layout, payment transfers page as well as personalisation options.

The following video documents the process of researching, interviewing users, synthesising and creating the prototype for the final design. This was presented to the rest of the UX Design Team at DBS and received positive feedback.
